The guys behind the Katelsen project got in touch with me to design the visual identity for their album “Perpetumami.”
Katelsen brought together three different musical personalities: SinSen’s lyrics, Adam L’s music and DJ Cutahead’s scratches. The result was raw, experimental hip-hop with its own very distinctive sound and atmosphere.
The starting point for the design was the white lines painted on city streets. I wanted the whole project to feel street-inspired, slightly trashy and imperfect. I deliberately combined the photographs into a raw patchwork, referencing scratching, cutting and the way hip-hop music is built from different samples.
And finally, the detail I like most about this project. Maybe a little obvious, but it fits the concept perfectly: a top-down view of a street featuring three symbols of the guys: a microphone, a beat machine and a turntable.
